Task Switching vs. Multitasking
David Meyer conducted research on multitasking and discovered that the majority of people are not capable of multitasking effectively. Only a small portion of the population is naturally skilled at it. Only a small group of people are naturally skilled at multitasking. When we attempt to multitask, we divide our attention and cannot perform tasks as effectively as we could.
When you switch tasks or try to do multiple tasks simultaneously, your effort and performance on each task decrease. If you or your employees need to switch tasks, ensure that the tasks require the same creative and thinking skills. Make sure that when switching tasks, it is between tasks that use the same creative and thinking skills.
Focusing on one task at a time and finishing it would be ideal. This will let you finish your tasks at a higher potential. Multitasking doesn’t save time, it just reduces the quality of the finished task. Focusing and completing tasks will improve your performance and take you to the next level.
Unlocking Your Leadership Potential
Improving leadership skills in the workplace starts with improving yourself. Brandon established the H3 Approach to help you align your thoughts, emotions, and actions. This will help you become a better leader and make a difference in your work and personal life.
If you can unlock your leadership potential, you can implement strategies that lead to next level performance. In the book, It’s Your Ship by Captain D. Michael Abrashoff, he talks about how he turned one of the worst Navy ship crews into one of the best. Improving leadership skills in managing people and teams can greatly enhance performance and business outcomes.
Abrashoff made it a point to create a vision, hold his team accountable, and especially made sure to give them individualized attention. This was done by meeting with them one on one and understanding what they want, who they are, where they want to go and what they truly want to do.

Brandon had a previous boss that implemented this same approach to mold him into a leader. If you want to learn how to improve your leadership skills in the workplace, it is important to understand your team and care about them. Implementing what his boss Chad Webb taught on how to connect with people and lead them; utilizing high love and high performance to take your business to the next level performance you are seeking.
High love means to connect with your people on another level, to understand their goals and truly care about them and their success. High performance is holding them to a higher standard because you have high love for them.
Building High Performance Teams
You will always be improving leadership skills just as you will always be improving your team. The first step to developing a high performance team is to hire the right people. This may take time at the beginning but it will save you time and money in the long run. Once you hire the right people for the job you need, you then need to train them, give them the right tools needed and then monitor them.
Connecting with your team members individually will go a long way and it will show that you care about their interests and not just your own or your companies. Your people help carry you towards your goals and success so you need to take just as good care of them as you do the business itself.
Sustaining Success and Growth
The goal when improving leadership skills and building that next level performance is to sustain it so you, your team and your business can continue in growth. By creating the right environment for your team to be open with you and comfortable, you create a sustainable work environment that aids in the continued growth of your company.
Creating an environment with coaching, reinforcement, and consistency along with individualized attention will sustain a workplace of continued growth. Remember to get involved as a team, discuss topics and challenges together and collaborate. Without creating this culture and continuing to implement the expectations and standards, your team and company will digress.
Conclusion
Reaching that next level performance for your business correlates with improving leadership skills. Focus on your team, show them you care about them as a person and in the workplace, create an environment where everyone can collaborate and keep it consistent. These are some of the main keys that will give you, your team and your business the sustained growth you are looking for, they all intertwine.
