How does it work?

How does a distributed firm work?

Each member of our team works independently, from their own home office. You are able to set your own hours and are empowered to serve clients around the United States, leveraging your professional experience. Our team meets regularly via GoToMeeting and Zoom and we are able to use the same software to connect with our clients.

Are your team members contractors or employees?

Due to the flexible and part-time nature of the work, all of our accountants, CPAs, and vCFOs are independent contractors. We do not hire W-2 employees. You will receive a 1099 at the end of the year for all earnings.

How is the pay structured for members of your accounting team?

The average pay depends on the role and the work that is being performed. Our team receives 50% of the billable amount charged to clients on the work they perform.  Our team members are paid once per month on the 15th via direct deposit for all work performed, or returns filed, the month prior. 

 

Historically, the hourly take home for our positions are in the following ranges: 

  • Accountants – $30 – $35/hour
  • CPAs – $45 – $73/hour*

 

*These rates include time spent on administrative duties. The range in hourly rate for CPAs has to do with the level of work performed by our team. The higher rates typically apply to CPAs involved in higher level CPA and CFO work, like tax planning and preparation and business advisory.

 

The sky’s the limit when it comes to revenue potential. As long as you can maintain the lifestyle you desire, you can set goals and we will work with you to assign available work, as appropriate, to help you achieve your goals.

Do you offer benefits?

No. As independent contractors, you will not receive additional compensation or benefits. Additionally, you are responsible for your own taxes. 

What is involved in onboarding and training once I’m hired?

Accounting Client-Facing Team

Onboarding usually takes about two weeks, depending on the time available and the role you are training for in our firm. The training time is unpaid and takes about one week (nine hours) of recorded training videos and approximately two and a half hours of onboarding sessions with leadership. Paid work begins once training is complete and client work is assigned.

 

Internal Administrative Team

Onboarding usually takes about two weeks, depending on the role you are training for in our firm.  The training time is paid.  Budgeted hourly rate and hours available are determined ahead of time and are based on each position on our administrative team.

What is the schedule like as a member of your team? Do I work 9-5?

We ask that our team works a minimum average of 20 hours per week. Most members of our team cap their capacity at around 20-25 hours per week. It can take up to 6 months to reach 20 hours per week consistently. We offer a gradual increase of weekly hours as training is completed and client work begins. We have had team members ramp up faster than 6 months if they are driven to master all of our software and the work assigned to them, turn work around quickly and we have client work available to assign to them.

 

While this position offers amazing flexibility, this is not a role you can fulfill working nights and weekends only.

What qualifications and software do I need in order to start working with clients?

The following qualifications are required to work on our accounting team: 

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree from a US-based university
  • Experience with US-based businesses
  • Certification as a QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor
  • Solid accounting skills

The following software programs are required to work on our accounting team: 

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adobe DC or higher (Accountants and CPAs)
  • Reliable Internet access
  • Phone line
  • Recommended – headset and second monitor
Do I need to be based in the United States?

We will consider qualified candidates with a US educational background and at least 5 years of accounting experience with US-based companies. Qualified candidates must be available during US business hours.

Experienced Marketing Assistant

PJS & Co. CPAs is looking for a professional marketing assistant who can help us with a variety of tasks focused on improving profit, growth, and lifestyle for service-based business owners. Tasks will vary to support marketing efforts to increase visibility and communicate more effectively with our target audience. We also produce a bi-weekly podcast, The Cultivating Business Growth Podcast, for which we need help writing show notes (averaging between 800 – 1200 words) and distributing that content.

We are a team of hardworking professionals who also balance life and kids at home. If you are someone who wants to continue a career while working from home, are great at time management, meeting deadlines, communicating effectively, and are passionate about helping others, we’d love to meet you.

Responsibilities include:

  • Daily administrative tasks to ensure functionality and coordination of department’s activities
