Perhaps an early indication that she would someday become a CPA was her natural tendencies towards money as a young child. She has always been good with money, saving up her earnings and allowance and even acting as a bank for her older brother, loaning him money during their childhood. Her first accounting class in high school gave her a taste of the subject and she got her first job as a secretarial assistant, working with a local firm after school as a junior in high school. Katina’s determination and work ethic proved to be invaluable assets for her as she quickly progressed in her profession. That high school job would ultimately launch into a career where Katina found that she was thriving helping business owners see that accounting can be used as a powerful tool.
Katina Peters earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. After ranking in the top ten of CPA exam participants, she obtained her CPA license in 2001. She had quickly risen in the firm at which she had worked since high school and became partner at only 23 years old. While at the helm of the Las Vegas location for many years, she gained experience with a variety of service-based industries, with a concentration in construction contractors and legal services.
Construction was the second largest industry overall in the valley and her favorite part of accounting in this industry became the intricacy in job costing and working with contractors to implement procedures capturing both direct and indirect job costs, providing insight into better job management and project estimation. When it comes to working with attorneys, she enjoys assisting them with establishing accounting practices and management tools to track client trust funds, attorney and client performance, and KPIs to locate and eliminate obstacles for more efficient performance. She loves working with business owners to understand their financial picture, identifying and improving foundations and structuring for greater performance and efficiencies, and understanding and improving the overall value of their business. Ultimately, she is driven by results and helping businesses reach the next level.
Katina’s experience in working with successful privately held businesses provided a diverse set of skills she uses to assist her clients in starting, maintaining, managing and thriving in their businesses. She takes a holistic approach to advising her clients including corporate structuring, accounting system design and implementation, business advisory and growth strategies, accounting oversight and analysis, and tax preparation and planning services. Katina continues to maintain memberships with the nationally recognized, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and her dual Montana and Nevada CPA Licenses and CPA State Society Memberships.
When Katina started a family and decided to relocate, she made the decision to leave the firm she had been with for 17 years. Her desire to obtain and allow others the freedom to play a larger role in living their lives while also maintaining a professional career drove her to join the community and leadership of a virtual CPA firm, rising quickly to Managing Partner. She met her future business partners Jami Johnson and Jaime Staley in the Leadership of this organization and when that virtual firm changed their business model, they banded together as PJS & Co. CPAs to continue serving their clients and the legacy of their vision. Katina is also an active member of her community, donating time to multiple non-profit organizations and enjoys spending time with her family.
